TESTIMONIALS

“How can spiritual direction be of help to me?” This is the question I asked several years ago. My rector had suggested this to me. She had a special person in mind, Bob Chapman. We met in person one time. Then COVID hit. Since then, we’ve met every month by Facetime. Bob is a great listener, a wonderful resource of current books which relate to our journeys here. I highly recommend spending time with Bob once a month, you won’t be sorry.  -RI

Bob touched my heart and led me to reflect on my faith and awaken in me the joy of exploring and learning about God’s presence in my life. He listens quietly to my questioning of published church doctrine, never challenging my thoughts, but rather accepting me where I was. Through his endearing, loving approach, he repeatedly brightens my day – providing new insights and understanding of the Bible and its meaning and application to my faith and daily life. He introduces me to many new spiritual authors, especially Thomas Merton. He reminds me of how poetry can capture and convey the beauty and love of life and God’s creation. I cherish our friendship and spiritual connection. – NH

When you spend time with Bob, you know that you have his undivided attention. He really listens and does not rush you. He is comfortable when there is silence. He is gentle and has such empathy you feel that you can tell him anything and he will not judge you.  -JA

Bob has been my spiritual director for two and a half years. I am so thankful for his generosity, his steady presence, and his gentle reminders that the Spirit is with us. He has been unfailingly patient and ever ready to show where the Spirit is at work. He often suggests ways to be more mindful, as well as other spiritual practices that could help me. He has many suggestions for further reading in spiritual and religious matters, and in matters of this world. In regards to human relations, he offers valuable insights with understanding and humor. With his guidance, I am seeing ways to be more peaceful. I especially appreciate his spirit of gratitude and joy, as well as his beautiful prayers. -MV

Being seventy-eight, and having spent my life attending church, I have had many pastors and spiritual leaders throughout the years. Many of them have been essential to my spiritual growth, but none has impacted my faith journey more than Bob Chapman. He is what every counselor or spiritual leader should be: empathetic, knowledgeable, caring, concerned, and a truly compassionate listener. Despite an immense academic knowledge of spiritual texts and beliefs, both Western and Eastern, he is able to meet everyone with whom he works on their level. Bob’s wealth of life experiences enables him to connect with and understand people from all walks of life. Without fail, with his calm and soothing demeanor, Bob always finds the right thing to say. I cannot recommend Bob Chapman more highly to anyone looking for a counselor, pastor, or friend. He is truly a gift everyone needs. -SF
